In the tenth century, the abbey of St. Germaine, near Paris, possessed a number of large estates. One of these was the manor of Neuillay. The monks of St. Germaine compiled a survey of who was living at Neuillay, how much land each family was responsible for cultivating, and what services they were required to provide. Below is included a list of the names which appear in the survey. These individuals are described as being Coloni (free farmers), Lidi (serfs) or Servi (slaves). The frequency which a name appeared in the community is listed next to it- none of the names were used more than twice.
