The following lists contain laqabs and nisbas I
found in ibn Munqidh. As there are about as many definitions of
the difference between a laqab and a nisba as there are writers
on the subject, I have chosen to refer to such jointly as
"bynames". More on this subject can be found in an excellenet
article by Juliana de Luna, "
Arabic
Names from al-Andalus: Nickbynames by type". Note that
this is not the definition of "byname" used by the SCA; the SCA
uses "byname" to refer to everything other than the primary
name.
Those bynames I found only in kunyas have been marked with a "K"
following the name; similarly, those found only in nasabs have
been marked "N". The two bynames found only in kunyas within
nasabs are marked "K in N". Thus, any name element I found used
as a byname is unmarked, even if also used in a kunya or nasab.
As there are not that many women mentioned in ibn Munqidh, I
have put the only feminine byname first.
